How Can I Find My Priesthood Line of Authority

1.Personal Records
You may have your line of authority somewhere in your personal records. Some of the brethren carry wallet cards with the information. You may have a parent, a brother, a spouse or other close relative who has access to the line of authority you are seeking. You can also request the line of authority directly from the priesthood holder who ordained you to your current office or from a family member of that person if they are available.

1. Church Records
The LDS church is now supplying priesthood lines of authority upon request and at no charge.

Contact Member and Statistical Records at:
Email: lineofauthority@ldschurch.org, or
Toll free: 800-453-3860 ext. 23500, option 6 then option 2, or
Local Salt Lake City: 801-240-3500, option 6 then option 2

Because of privacy concerns and in order to locate your records you will be asked to verify some of your personal information. Some of the information you may need to have available is:

  • Full name of the priesthood holder
  • Date of birth
  • Current ward and stake
  • Current priesthood office held
  • Address and ZIP Code
  • Who performed the ordination

Member Services will mail or fax (if you request it) the record to you.  Currently, the church is not offering to send your priesthood line by email. Once it arrives, please review it for accuracy. The church may or may not have your complete record, and it may be possible that some errors exist in the information they have. If you discover a discrepancy between the church records and your own, please notify Member Services with the corrections.
